INTRO 

My name is Mark Lawer AKA Trawler and this is my first surfing photography online Blog/Book I have done quite a few print books on skateboarding. The rolling board has been a passion for me since my early teens. It has taken me a long way and I have seen a lot of the world. In my early days I was on the England Skateboard team that went to Vancouver in 1986. 


Photography was something that came to me late in life, I finally did a course at my local community private studio. Lockdown got in the way but soon after I was up and out there taking photos of anything that moves fast.  In my later life I have the travelling bug and I cannot stop.  I have been all over with this project.  

Hopefully my photography is improving with every trip. I am a bit of a landlubber.  I do not get in the water as I have hit 60 years old and I would probably won't be any good at it. With the improvement of the lenses I feel that I can do a good job from the shore. 


I come from a journalistic family and we always have copies of Surfer magazine in our house, I was brought up on it. My father's side of the family were from Newquay, the surf capital of the UK and it was my stomping ground as a kid. I feel that surfing as a spectator sport is ingrained in me. 


This Blogger is fully self funded and probably won't make any revenue but that is not the point. It is about getting out there and seeing these places and enjoying the surroundings whilst taking photographs. I do not have a corporate sponsor or any funding whatsoever.  I do this for the love of it.  I hope you will like my work as much as I have enjoyed making it.  Please bookmark to come back here for regular updates. I think this page will morph into skateboarding and other visual delights as time goes by.

What can you say about Trestles that hasn't already been said,   it is amazing place to visit. Huntingdon Beach

What surfing pages would be complete without Huntington Beach? Say what you like about the place but the surf is consistent.   There are always good riders in the water usually very young and up-and-coming. The irony was not lost on me when I saw the statue of Duke Kahanamoku surrounded by rails and racks of cheap surf clothing . There is a certain ugly commercialism surrounding “Surf City”. If you scrape all that away and just get down to the shoreline and out in the water, it is a great place to be.   On my recent visit, there was a surf contest sponsored, to its credit by one of the big corner shops next to the pier. These events happen on one side of the pier while normal surfing continues on the other side. It is a good mix and I didn’t know which way to point my camera. It was like a tennis match between the two.
