When you are starting off in surf photography the hardest thing is knowing the best spots on the best days. This is where good friends can come into their own as a vital resource and just a nod and a swerve in the right direction. All the Internet forecast sites are good up to a point but they just cannot beat local knowledge and experienced insiders. My friend Richard messaged me around the first few weeks of Autumn 2021 regarding his favourite spot which we will remain nameless but let's just say it is on the north coast and it is not Newquay. He talked me through it and said get there at the beginning of low tide about 9am you will see a few people milling around getting ready to go in the water and only a few people out but by 9:30 or 10 o'clock it will start pumping and people will go into the water and you will witness a fantastic session. Richard was like Mystic Meg personified. Every word he spoke was coming true.. in front of my very eyes. There are pros out in the water and local Hotties from all around the North Cornwall coast. It was a beautiful thing to behold. I shot 700 photos on this day and I had witnessed every style and manoeuvre that is possible from floaters to stylish bottom turns, long barrels and aerials. Drop the mic! it was a fantastic starter and it really got me hooked for more.
